Puppet Hands Starting Point

This is the beginning of the design process for my Chistery the Flying Monkey Puppet's hands, as you can see, movement is the key feature of this aspect and I did spend a lot of time experimenting with techniques and mechanisms to achieve the final outcome which are the darker versions also shown (these were the ones then attached to the rest of the puppet and gave it a realistic sense, but still following inspiration from Handspring Puppet Company and exposing the workings of the element.





Strange Photos XD

 These are some photos I took on holiday in the Isles of Scilly. The first one is quite quirky, that's why I like it, I made the shape of a person using various shells and seaweed which I thought was quite fun.

The other photo of footprints in the sand plays with my mind a little bit... When you first look at it, it seems as if the footprints are 3D and are coming out of the sand, but once you change your focus to the shadows on the heels, you can see how they're actually imprinted in the sand...Quite weird really, like a trick of the light :S switches between 3D and imprinted for me... Does anyone else see this?

Improvised henna



















Here is a henna design that I started by improvisation but developed on it and gave my friends and I matching ones. It is one of my favourite original designs to do, inspired by various cultures :)

Bendy Smart Phones!!! :D

These are bendy phone screens made from a material called Graphene (one atom-layer thick of Graphite in a hexagonal bond structure (densely packed carbon atoms) - a strong structure that's able to move). The phone would be only 0.3mm thick which actually amazes me :O and its 'Kinectic' technology allows users to control its functions (i.e. music) by bending the screen. WOW! These astonishing phones were meant to be on the market in 2012...it's now 2014 Samsung! Although they will be very expensive when released...

TrackingPoint Rifle

I think this is a remarkable piece of technology, it allows you to hit targets you can't see... With a Precision Guided Firearm System, the gun can tag a target but even when the shooter pulls the trigger, the bullet will not be fired until the target is correctly sighted. The shooter inputs wind conditions and the gun's ballistic computer takes into consideration target distance, ammunition and barrel condition. The whole movie scenario of shooting around corners is able to be brought to life as the shooter can watch a video of the aim they can't see on a screen that is separate from the gun... What looks like an optical view finder on top of the gun is actually a small camera and the videos can be streamed over WiFi for companies to record/track shooting sessions. However, this aspect is under further development as people aren't sure that the system is safe enough not to be hacked. These rifles cost $10,000 - $20,000 each and the US have purchased 6, they're mainly used for hunting... Lets just say the TrackingPoint Rifle is a dream boy's toy ;)

Epic Laser Cutting!!

These are some very unique, amazing laser cut creations that caught my eye. The folding ukulele is innovative and quirky with the practicality of being an easily portable instrument. The ornamental laser cutting example is an extremely detailed, delicate form and I really like the decorative, intricate twist on a classic truck. :)

3D PRINTED FOOD!! :O


So there are new 3D printers that have been unveiled in Las Vegas that can print Chocolate and sugar-based confectionery which looks pretty awesome but too good to eat... The sweets can even have moving parts! Although, the machines that can produce these edible artworks come with a pretty hefty price tag, so could 3D printed sweets be a good business and worthwhile step up in technology after all?

Wicked-inspired necklace - Nature vs Mechanical theme




 This is one of my GCSE Resistant Materials final jewellery pieces. The necklace is inspired by Wicked the Musical and has a theme of mechanics and woodland/nature. I cast the gear-shaped pendant out of pewter and enameled the three green rectangular copper pieces in the main frame. The basic of it is copper chain and the pieces link together like a train track, sitting on the chest with the pendant hanging slightly lower. A traditional clasp is used at the back.

  

Inverted Conker Shell




As a response to the texture, colours and form of a conker shell, I have created this piece using MDF wood and dowel rod. The sculpture has two separate sides (similar to a shell holding a conker before broken) that fit together into a right angle at the base using a tight finger joint. Both sides have unevenly lengthed spikes (sharpened dowel rod) tightly fit into multiple drilled holes - It slots together with no extra fittings required. The lime green, yellow, brown and burgundy colours used focus on the realistic colouring of the natural form of a conker shell, but the inverted shape with straight edges is quite the opposite.
