As a response to the texture, colours and form of a conker shell, I have created this piece using MDF wood and dowel rod. The sculpture has two separate sides (similar to a shell holding a conker before broken) that fit together into a right angle at the base using a tight finger joint. Both sides have unevenly lengthed spikes (sharpened dowel rod) tightly fit into multiple drilled holes - It slots together with no extra fittings required. The lime green, yellow, brown and burgundy colours used focus on the realistic colouring of the natural form of a conker shell, but the inverted shape with straight edges is quite the opposite.

Inverted Conker Shell
As a response to the texture, colours and form of a conker shell, I have created this piece using MDF wood and dowel rod. The sculpture has two separate sides (similar to a shell holding a conker before broken) that fit together into a right angle at the base using a tight finger joint. Both sides have unevenly lengthed spikes (sharpened dowel rod) tightly fit into multiple drilled holes - It slots together with no extra fittings required. MDF Tree Bark
As a response to the texture, colour and shape of tree bark, I created this small piece which I particularly like because of its realism. I used MDF wood (particularly hard to sculpt) and cut the jagged outline of a broken-off piece of bark. Then using fine chisels, I took away material gradually, created depth/levels in the artificial layers of the wood and imprinted knot-like lines. For extra effect, I used an electric engraver to get a kind of grain in the wood. To complete the look, I stained the wood which naturally came out in tonal shades - fibrous sections lighter and glossier, flat sections darker. I hope to refine this technique in future set model designs. :)

Tiny Sculptures
Some AMAZING sculpture work from http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2013/02/takahiro-iwasaki/ ...truly remarkable and extremely intricate! I absolutely love these pieces, the concentration and skill that went into creating these must have been immense!
